Gazeley Properties commissioned Chetwoods to undertake research to re-think the way large scale logistics buildings are designed in order to align the sector with environmentally conscious 21st Century ideals.
Initial work by Chetwoods led to Project Turbine in Bedfordshire which represented a revolutionary approach to the future of logistics design.
Featuring 11 separate environmental initiatives, the project saved 156 tonnes of CO2 per annum and reduced water requirement by 45%. Chetwoods ensured that innovations recommended were cost effective and not installed at a cost premium. Life cycle analysis and careful detailing obviated negative preconceptions of the expense of environmental design.
Further work since Project Turbine was completed in 2004, has led to further successful creative environmental design projects resulting in the first ‘outstanding’ BREEAM award for any building in the UK in 2009 for Gazeley’s logistics building at Chatterley Valley.
