An essential element of the brief that Chetwoods developed with the client was staff retention and the reduction of a historic ‘churn rate’ common to most call centre facilities. Social and economic sustainability were carefully considered via initiatives designed to enhance the working environment and benefit staff well-being and performance.
The client, internet banking service Egg, required a high-tech workspace for over 300 employees, which combined a technically excellent workspace with a world class data centre. Chetwoods’ brief included several elements that had to be combined within one large 6200 m2 building. These encompassed the data centre, relaxation zones, cafeteria, meeting spaces, main workspace desking and back of house facilities.
The resulting design has produced a unique building that has an energetic buzz while still being conducive to call centre style working. Bespoke noise dampening, using acoustic foam for wall panels, bespoke light fittings, and diffused natural lighting techniques create a pleasant working environment on the floor of the two storey building. Smaller spaces, such as offices and the relaxation suites, are accessible from both ground and first floor level.
Chetwoods worked exceptionally closely with Egg and its employees from the first concepts through to project completion, producing a high level of satisfaction for all working within the building on a day to day basis.
