Chetwoods are working on two developments with Sainsbury’s in Huntingdon. The projects complement the district council’s Western Area Action Plan to regenerate the west of Huntingdon town centre by encouraging more mixed-use development between the railway station and the high street while also attracting shoppers back to the town centre itself.
A new 57,000sq ft Sainsbury’s store will be built on a derelict former industrial site between Brampton Road/George Street and St John’s Street. The design of the store will create an active and open shop front in keeping with creating a better experience for pedestrians in a town centre that is dominated by the ring road. As part of the design a new pedestrianised shared surface will lead north-eastwards from the public square towards St John’s Street forming a convenient, attractive and vibrant route between the railway station and the high street.
The parallel re-development of the existing Sainsbury’s site at Chequers Court will contribute to the regeneration of the north end of the high street.
