A store and associated petrol filling station for Sainsbury’s are now trading as part of a wider scheme involving the relocation of the existing store to the outskirts of town and the building of a new Technical College.
The existing store site is to be redeveloped as an extension to the existing retail centre or as council offices. The store design was unique in providing basement servicing and support facilities taking advantage of the natural slope of the site for the road frontage.
Complementary mixed-use including employment and residential have also been approved for the site, but are subject to a reserved matters application and market conditions.
