Technology in Action: Real time visualisation for logistics warehouse design

Insights
News

A recent project underscores our dedication to harnessing technology that will enhance accessibility and customisation in the industrial and logistics sector.

Our partnership with GLP, which spans over three decades, has redefined sustainable logistics warehouse developments and pioneered groundbreaking designs and solutions that have set benchmarks for the industry. Collaboration has pushed boundaries, reflecting a shared commitment to innovation, and to the design of logistics facilities that are innovative, efficient, and tailored to an occupier’s requirements.

Technology in Action: The GLP Configurator

The GLP Configurator is an interactive real-time visualisation platform that has been developed by our logistics project teams. It provides an immersive experience of a warehouse for GLP’s built-to-suit clients to help them refine ideas and make confident informed decisions before construction commences.

The powerful tool draws from a diverse array of GLP warehouse models across Europe and the UK, showcasing localised standard templates for speculative developments.  It features over 700 rendered panoramic files created from 2 Revit models, using more than 50 design options to enable end-users to visualise warehouse concepts from multiple perspectives, and to customise their ideal spaces.

The Configurator exemplifies how technology can make design more accessible and interactive, driving collaboration, enhancing innovation, and delivering optimised solutions.

An Innovative Approach

This project is one example of how digitisation empowers us to enhance collaboration, foster innovation, and streamline our approach. Through innovative partnerships with clients such as GLP, we are constantly exploring new opportunities and possibilities in design and technology to increase efficiency.

Across our business we are adopting the advanced digital tools and technologies that enable us to support our clients with data-driven decision-making, enhanced project delivery, and confidence in the long-term performance of buildings. We aim not only to optimise outcomes for our clients, but also to ensure the longevity and wellbeing of the buildings and spaces we create.

Our current research is looking at:

• Digital twin technology for real-time performance analysis and future-proofing assets.

• Leveraging emotional analytics to assess how built environments impact human wellbeing.

• Harnessing AI-powered generative design to revolutionise our approach to complex design challenges

• Designing and building using a circular construction and materials approach

These projects and our research initiatives represent our core philosophy: the seamless integration of creativity, sustainability, and technology. This approach is encapsulated in Studio, Thrive, and Works: three principles that shape every aspect of our practice, inspiring us to innovate, to push boundaries, and to unlock every project’s social, environmental, and commercial potential.
