Marshalls Mill
Works to the reception included a comprehensive redesign and refurbishment of the internal spaces to rationalise and modernise the reception area and provide high-quality office accommodation. Externally a new seven-metre double height fully-glazed timber framed vestibule became a key feature of the works providing a new signature entrance for the Mill to house a series of changing large-scale illuminated art installations.
To reinvigorate the bleak and confusing visitor journey the external works included the lowering of the three-metre boundary wall to the street to allow views into the site, and the introduction of a structured temporary landscape consisting of extensive large-scale container planting of native tree species and lower level tray planting.
The completed scheme, which required two full planning approvals and listed building consents, succeeded in raising the profile of the building, securing values, and acted as a driver for the future development and delivery of the client’s masterplan for the site.
