200 Bath Road

200 Bath Road is located at the eastern gateway into the Slough Trading Estate in a strategic location on the Bath Road. It replaces underutilised and vacant office buildings with a landmark data centre building with ancillary office space. The scheme includes a substation, plant enclosure, and extensive landscaping and boundary treatments.
Regular interactions with Slough Borough Council, SEGRO and the wider project team at pre-application workshops contributed to the design of a beneficial, engaging and contextual development along one of Slough’s most prominent thoroughfares.
The architecture embraces its context and iconic location. Its interactive and articulated front-facing façade takes design elements from the historic developments on the site and the vertical rhythm of the Art Deco buildings that previously existed on Bath Road. Its classical proportions introduce an abundance of clear glazing, feature lighting, and a playful array of horizontal and vertical bandings.
Architectural details such as fins and shadow gaps break up the predominantly bronze-coloured metal façades, providing articulation and activity, including to those elevations with fewer openings. The use of colour provides visual engagement and promotes the identity of the estate whilst protecting the historic views from Windsor Castle across the Trading Estate.
The landscaping strategy will be a major focal point along Bath Road. The carefully considered arrangement of plants and trees will create public interest and amenity, as well as a much-needed space for biodiversity. The design also creates passive security for the scheme, while blurring the boundary between the security line and the landscaping.
The scheme’s sustainability strategy targets BREEAM Excellent, and encourages the use of sustainable methods of transport with cycle stores, electric vehicle charging, and good connections to local public transport.
