We were the architect for the new 69,298 sqft waste handling building at Cory’s Energy from Waste site at 54-60 River Road, Barking up to planning and first stage tender, and will also have Design Guardian responsibility through to completion.

The development will modernise the existing waste site, refurbish the two wharves to bring them back into use, and deliver a new purpose-built industrial waste building on a designated Safeguarded Wharf and Safeguarded Waste Site.

The new purpose-built building incorporates innovative machinery with direct connection to Rippleway Wharf and the River Roding. Rippleway Wharf is to be reconstructed to allow container stacking and the loading of barges. The modernised waste facility will move waste operations from road-to-road to road-to-river, utilising the river for transport, resulting in a reduction in waste vehicles on the road. The scheme will provide the capability to move waste via barges to Cory’s energy-from-waste (EfW) facilities in south-east London and will increase the amount of waste through-put which can be delivered to the site.
