We are proud to have designed Baytree Logistic Properties multi-award-winning scheme at Nuneaton, which has been shortlisted for the 2024 Structural Timber Awards Commercial Project of the Year.

The awards celebrate architectural achievements and engineering ingenuity in timber construction. Winners will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony at the National Conference Centre, Birmingham in October.

Baytree Nuneaton is one of the first examples in the UK of the use of timber in an innovative building solution for the logistics sector. From the outset both architect and client were convinced to use timber – with its recognised sustainability and wellbeing benefits – as a key part of the design, rather than the usual steelwork of a logistics development.

In addition to timber’s structural and environmental performance, a key consideration was its ability to create the biophilic internal environment that would enhance wellbeing. Aesthetically the design supports the brief to create a warm, welcoming environment in the offices.

The project team included EURBAN, Chetwoods, Baytree, Hasslacher Norica Timber + Stora Enso.

Building on high levels of industry interest in this project, Chetwoods and Evolve Consulting Engineers have undertaken focused research on ‘Enabling structural timber in UK logistics’ that looks at how structural timber could be a viable alternative to steel in future industrial and logistics schemes, and how we can overcome some of the current challenges that prevents the sector from utilising the building material more widely. A series of roundtable events with industry professionals, together with an industry survey, will inform the report due to be published in Autumn 2024.
