We were commissioned to review a number of Sainsbury’s existing warehouse buildings and sites, working with their Logistics and Strategic teams to consider all available options to improve operational, cost and estate efficiencies.

The existing Sainsbury distribution centre at Basingstoke, although ideally located, provided out-of-date inefficient accommodation with high annual running costs, and inefficient circulation leading, among other things, to higher vehicle tracking.

The re-design for the site had to overcome some challenging site access issues and constraints. It followed a three-phase development approach to demolition and reconstruction of three chilled and ambient warehouses delivered over a three-year period to minimise the disruption to Sainsbury’s operations.
